Pétanque is not a game for the elderly, despite what others may think, this is a game for all ages, to succeed in this game you don’t need speed nor strength, and for that reason, whether you’re 8 or 88 péetanque could be a great way for you to spend your afternoon in the sun. The game of Pétanque originated from Marseille, a city which maintains around 10000 players. When looking at Pétanque on the international scene, the best players are considered to be French, Belgian, Japanese and Korean.

The rules are simple, each player has 3 grooved balls, next you need a jack ( a small wooden ball) and finally enough players to make two teams. The goal of the game is just as simple, each player/team takes turns to throw their ball, trying to get it is stop as close as possible to the jack. The balls closest to the jack wins points and the first team to arrive to 11 points wins.

All that you need now is to find a place to play….. throughout Paris there are many areas that have been cleared, it would be tough going to visit any arrondissment and not find an area to play. Take Place Verlaine in the 13th or place des Batignolles in the 17th, ideal areas for a game which never fail to raise an atmosphere during a game of Pétanque.
