| 04/2010 | I am looking to join a family with 20 hours or less of work per week (ideally live-in), as I have been offered a position in Paris to teach English 12 hours a week starting in October 2010. I have a long history of experience working with children of all ages. I began working as a babysitter 13 years ago working locally with families on a consistent basis. I had the privilege of working with some of the same families for a number of years; watching their children grows from toddlers through primary school and beyond. From there I worked at Berkeley Tuolumne Family Camp as the Assistant Director of Kiddie Camp, which gave me greater understanding in organizing a child’s day in a group setting. I worked at Berkeley Tuoloumne Family Camp for 2 years and worked hard to evolve the Kiddie Camp program into something more than just a daycare. During the academic year, I also began to volunteer as a Teacher’s Assistant at Washington Elementary School in Berkeley, California and worked in a 1st grade classroom with 30 students a 6 hours a week. Towards the end of my high school career I began to work for the Black Repertory Group in Berkeley as the Director of Dramatic Arts in an after-school program for children. The program was designed to provide an extension of school, but with a more creative element. I assisted the Executive Director in designing and implementing a homework system, where students received one-on-one tutoring with mentors. I also helped created an elaborate dramatic arts program, where students could creatively engage the subjects they learned in school by writing and acting in their own productions. After high school, I continued my work with children as the Director of Dramatic Arts at the South Berkeley YMCA Learning Academy and single handedly designed an acting program for children. The program included culturally based plays, improvisation workshops, and just general play. When working with children it’s incredibly important for me to provide a nurturing and supportive environment for children, where they are loved and feel comfortable in being their authentic self. This philosophy leads me to join Rites of Sisterhood, a mentoring organization in Los Angeles for at-risk youth. Many of the youth I worked with were so demoralized by living in violent and unloving environments, that my work with them at times seemed overwhelming. However, I carried my philosophy with me and always tried to provide a loving and safe place for them to be their best self. Throughout my years with Rites of Sisterhood, I went from Director of Programming and creating weekly enrichment programs for them to being the Executive Director of the organization in my final year. Throughout my 14 years of experience with children, my most significant position as been being a nanny for 13 years, off and on, for the same boy, Darrell Owens. From the 1st month of his life, my involvement in his life has been that of an older sister. I began caring for him on my own when he was barely 2 months old! Over the past 13 years, I have done everything from changing diapers, taking him to school, cooking and cleaning for him. As he approaches his adolescence, my involvement with him has changed, but I am always making sure he is well cared for intellectually, emotionally, and physically. More than anything else, this experience has provided me with all I need and more to be successful as an Au-Pair. Currently, I’m working as an Au-Pair in Paris with a family of 4, which includes 2 young boys. In short, I believe all of my experiences would allow me to successfully perform necessary duties as an Au-Pair for your family. I am 23, I am originally from Poland, but for the past 7 years I lived and studied in Montreal, Israel and New York, where I’ve recently graduated Stern College. I love to travel and explore new cultures, especially French, which I absolutely love.
